HRCU is focused on continually identifying and implementing new security measures and protocols as they become available to ensure the safety and security of member assets. EMV 3D Secure (3DS) One-Time Passcode is one of the ways we work to reduce fraud and help improve every HRCU member’s digital experience.

 

 

 

EMV 3DS uses risk-based rules to authenticate HRCU member transactions based on data elements provided during verification.

 

Additional Layer of Security

Any online transaction attempt using an HRCU debit card that meets specific rules and exhibits heightened risk will immediately prompt a one-time passcode for identity verification. This one-time passcode is sent to the member’s phone number on file in the form of a text message. The online merchant site will display a screen for the member to enter their one-time passcode and successfully authenticate the transaction. Once complete, the member may continue with the merchant’s purchase process to finalize their order.

More Secure Online Purchasing Power

EMV 3DS One-Time Passcode adds an extra layer of security to your online shopping experience. This feature is automatically enabled for all HRCU debit card holders.

 

Simple Steps for Safe Shopping

The requirement for members to authenticate and verify their identity in the form of a one-time passcode applies only to online transactions which exhibit an elevated level of risk through participating merchants.

 

Any time a member uses their HRCU debit card to make an online purchase, the merchant site and transaction details will be evaluated using a risk-based algorithm to determine the inherent level of risk.

 

If the transaction is considered to have a high level of risk, the EMV 3DS One-Time Passcode process will initiate:

      • A text message is sent to the member’s phone number on file with a one-time passcode.
      • A prompt will appear on the merchant site to enter the passcode.
      • Submitting the passcode successfully authenticates the transaction and verifies the member’s identity.

 

After completing the authentication steps noted above, online merchant sites will continue the purchase process and finalize the order. However, if the member receives a code and does not provide it on the merchant site when prompted, the transaction will fail and will not be processed successfully.

The best way to ensure the EMV 3DS One-Time Passcode process is able to result in successful authentication is to keep accurate account information on file with HRCU. Please be sure to update your account any time there is a change to your contact information and/or identification card, especially regarding your mobile phone number.
